Smart Pattern Generator (2020)
Creative Coding / Physical Computing & PrototypingProcessing, Adobe Illustrator, White Perspex, Laser Cut, Arduino Uno
The Smart Pattern Generator prototype was created in the course of the
physical computing project "CONTROL" at The Glasgow School of Art. I was
exploring the concept of automation within the graphic design area. I
was speculating about a future where designers are not making creative
decisions by themselves, but with the help of generative tools.
These
tools use algorithms based on simple geometry and straight angles which,
most of the time, create interesting graphical outcomes. Is the
development of algorithmic tools for art & design the end for
creative jobs, or should we look at innovations with the idea of
exploring new approaches in design?
